This 41.7% Fluridone product is excellent for whole pond and lake treatments. A selective systemic aquatic herbicide for management of aquatic vegetation in fresh water ponds, lakes, reservoirs, drainage and irrigation canals. It is important to maintain the recommended concentration in contact with the target plants for a minimum of 45 days. A specialty herbicide that controls almost all aquatic weeds. Sonar should be applied early in the season, prior to or just after plant growth begins. Very effective on duckweed and milfoil.

  • Sonar should be applied early in the season, prior to or just after plant growth begins
  • Treatments last for several seasons in many cases, depending on plants
  • Absorbed by the plants and inhibits the weed’s ability to make food, causing it to die.
  • Initial results can be seen in ten days. Complete kill can take 30 to 90 days.

Sonar®, which is similar to another popular aglaecide Avast®, contains the ingredient fluridone. Fluridone is used to control Eurasian watermilfoil and other aquatic plants. Using flouridone for watermilfoil is in many cases the best solution, as mechanical harvesting can actually make it spread worse. Sonar controls target weeds in almost any body of water, including lakes, reservoirs, ponds, canals and rivers. During the typical treatment season, it takes 30 to 90 days for Sonar to work. Susceptible plants absorb Sonar through their leaves, shoots and from the hydrosoil by way of the roots.

Sonar AS can be applied as a surface spray. Dilute 16 ounces Sonar per 5 gallons of water.

Application Rates:
Bladderwort, Coontail, Elodea, Eurasian Watermilfoil, Hydrilla, Lily Pad, Naiads, Pondweed, Spatterdock:

  • 16 ounces per acre (4 - 6 feet average)

Duckweed (Watermeal):

  • Year 1: 32 ounces per acre (4 - 6 feet average)
  • Year 2: 16 ounces per acre (4 - 6 feet average)

Within a short period (seven to ten days) injury symptoms begin to appear. Susceptible weeds will start to show chlorosis, an abnormal plant condition characterized by an absence or deficiency of green pigment. Sonar's selectivity lets desirable aquatic plants become reestablished. Yet, as effective as Sonar is on target water weeds, it won't restrict swimming, fishing or drinking, even immediately after application. Sonar provides the most efficient concentration level and is the ideal choice in waterbodies with minimal water flow and when targeting strands of emersed vegetation.

Apply to non-irrigation ponds only.
